I know it has been a while, but Kai Fech is back bigger than ever this year. We finished off this year with a bang and Pape went off to Senegal again taking a lucky group of people on a fabulous month long workshop. It was a great success with particpants saying they will go again next year.
You can do this too - we have another workshop going in June this year and other in January 2011. Details will be up shortly.
We have also started a new round of African Drumming and African Dance lessons at Marrickville West. These lessons have been great with a load of new people coming along to learn to drum and dance. We will be having a performance by the groups a little later in the year so watch here for details.
We are also really happy to announce that we have a new African Drumming Class starting on 24 March at a brand new venue in Darlinghurst. These classes will be for Intermediate to Advanced students. All the details are below.
As this year, more than ever, all eyes are on Africa due to the World Cup in South Africa, so join in the fun and join one of the classes - then you will be ready to party with the best of them when the action starts in earnest!!
Just a thought if you are thinking about whether or not you can do the classes! Albert Enstein said two very fitting things;
”I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious”, and “He who cherishes the values of culture cannot fail to be a pacifist.” so come along to the classes, be passionatley curious and bring a little peace to the world through cherishing the culture of others
..Now to our upcoming gigs…..
Once again that rolllicking West African Band led by the irrepressile Pape Mbaye will be playing at Cafe Carnivale in the first gig for 2010.

For the first time Kai Fech is playing at the Rivserside Theatre Parramatta as part of the World Music programme being developed there by Cafe Carnivale and Musica Viva.
The guys will be performing at the Riverside Theatre corner of Church and Market Streets Parramatta at 3.30pm.
A great thing to do on a Sunday afternoon - so get along with the whole family.
Book via Cafe Carnivale on 1800 688 482
So what better way to get fit than an energetic African Dance Work Out - meet new people - learn new steps and impress your friends your next night out on the dance floor. PLUS the big bonus is that you will be completely in tune for all those great World Cup parties cming up. So come along to our African Dance classes from 7.30 every Tuesday.
And for those of you who are feeling a little less energetic but would like to get in touch with your inner self - come along to the drum classes which start at 6pm, also on Tuesdays. It is incredibly relaxing and satisfying to feel that inner rhythm and then play it on your drum.
The next round of classes start on 16 March - there is still space!
The classes are at Marrickville West Primary School, corner or Livingstone and Beauchamp Street Marrickville West. The cost is $25 per class or $40 for both classes. You can prepurchase the full series of 6 lessons for $120, or $200 for 6 lessons of each.
NEW NEW NEW
If you have already been learning djembe for a while and are looking for a class that is a little more challenging, Pape Mbaye is starting djembe classes for Intermediate to Advanced students at a brand new venue opening on 13 March.
The Djembe classes themselves begin on 26 March at 6pm. The classes will be a maximum of 10 to ensure individual attention to extend the skills of all the students.
The classes will be at 48 Little Oxford Street - Arts Health and Lifestyle Centre.
It is situated right behind Kinselas at Taylor Square, they offer all kinds of great classes - belly dancing, sharmanic drumming, massage plus workshops for women by Vixen Noir - Unleash Your Fire! and many others. As soon as the website is completed I will post a link on our site - in the meantime, email me for more information.
The January Workshop was a great success - but don’t worry if you didn’t get there - you can still get there in June!
I will keep you updated with dates - but for now keep the month of June free to have the holiday of a life time!
